True Colors

At the end of this month I am going to see Kinky Boots with my daughter and granddaughter. I have always liked Cyndi Lauper. The highlights of her career took place in my daughter's heyday, not mine. However, Cyndi is only 2 years younger than me. That always gave me pause and inspired me a bit.

There is great pressure on women to "act our age" and to live our lives according to age appropriate norms. She never allowed herself to be bullied in that way. I like that she retained her youthfulness and quirkiness. I like that she always promoted equality and acceptance. She has always been honest, genuine, and true to herself. That's why I love her.

  3. Women of our generation, and especially our children, had so much more opportunity to generate careers that did not center on home, husband and children. Some ran with it, banners streaming.

    1. I am so thankful for all that. I loved working outside the home. When you write about your job it makes me miss it a bit.

  4. I LOVE Cyndi Lauper! Of course, her heyday was during my formative years, too, and being a "closet cosmetologist" my whole life, I have adored her changing hair styles and colors!! True Colors has been one of my favorites since she released it! It brings tears to my eyes. Who could have foretold how much that song would come to touch my life so intimately?!? We watched the original "Kinky Boots" movie a few years back. I love how Cyndi has brought good attention to the topic.
