Blah

I'm feeling blah. I am way too focused on political stuff, and need a break. However, political stuff is all I want to focus on. It is a conundrum.

I did take a long bike ride yesterday with the man. I only left my computer and my online moderating gig because he forced me to. This is why I keep him around. Oh yeah, and because I love him.

Here are some things one might see when one turns off the computer and leaves the house:

Red winged blackbird

Cormorants or anhingas? - they are always on this tree, or what is left of it

An osprey looking inscrutable and feigning indifference

The historic pump house at the end of the Lake Apopka Loop Trail
A big old alligator just trying to take a nap, s/he got angry I was taking this picture (from the bridge...) and got up and left.

Here S/he is, disgusted and leaving.

  1. He was wise to get you away from politics for a while. Things like that can drive you crazy. The pictures are outstanding. I cannot imagine randomly coming upon an alligator. I would be nervous about that one.

    1. As well you should be, they are dangerous creatures.

  2. I can feel the heat. Thanks for the birds. Sometimes it helps to just concentrate on the present and forget politics. Or go bake bread. Kneading bread is great for angst!

    1. That's his job (making bread). I'm more inclined to make oatmeal cookies. But I hear you. Love.

  3. Thank God we have her to save us from the chaos. These are absolutely wonderful pictures, Colette. Thank you for sharing so much beauty today, it gave me a break too.

    1. Oh Gee, I'm not sure. Maybe 12 feet? Big, but not the biggest I've seen.

  5. I tried to leave a comment earlier but I was on a free wifi and I don't know if it went through. Or if you have comment moderation on.

I was wondering how long that beast was.

  7. I am so grateful that you took a break from politics and went on this walk. Beautiful birds, and THAT ALLIGATOR! Wow! What an amazingly big and awesome creature. Politics is very challenging right now. I can't believe that we actually talk about nuclear war at the dinner table these days. Sigh. Keep on walking, it's the only balance to the insane times.

  8. No sound lovely sites to see. Mother nature, no matter what she throws at us, is better than politics.

    1. Yes, now if we can just keep her around for awhile.

  9. Nature is infinitely better than politics. That gator is a giant! That huge maw, unfortunately reminds me of certain politicians.

  10. Thank you for these glimpses of Florida beauty, including the fierce alligator! My favorites are the Red-winged Blackbird and the one with the pump house. An exquisite day!

Regarding politics and lies, these words came to mind:

"Perhaps the truth depends on a walk around the lake." (Wallace Stevens).

    1. Nice quote putting it all in context. I really love red-winged blackbirds, too. They never seem to stay still long enough for me to get a good photo. I was lucky that day.

  11. If Blah includes cycling and meeting a live alligator (at a safe distance) - I want some of it.

  12. I have had the Blahs too, I've been trying to focus upon more Positive things that can Uplift me, but it has been a Process and I'm not quite there yet. I think being close to a live Alligator might jolt me out for a bit tho'! *winks* Dawn... The Bohemian

    1. I think it is the world at large - so much depressing stuff going on. Sucks the joy out of life. Seeing a big live alligator is like seeing a real live dinosaur.

  13. Love the pics. Love the thought of getting away from the computer leads to bike riding and picture taking.

    Hope it helped the blahs.

  14. This time of year brings so much yard work that I am rarely inside. And I'd much rather have my hands in dirt than listening to all the dirt on the news. It is so much healthier. Still, I'd rather see pictures of alligators than actually run into them in real life.

    1. Sounds like fun. Soon it will be too hot to garden around here until the fall. I envy you this time of year up north. The lilacs should be blooming soon!
