I no longer enjoy being busy, although I was happy being busy when I was a working person. Multi-tasking, rushing around, talking to a lot of people was all fun. I was proud of all I could accomplish. I'm not sure I ever relaxed, because when I came home there was cooking, cleaning, and shopping to do. Early on there was child-care as well. It's all a blur. It was an important time, a time for productivity. I'm glad it's over.
I hear you. Before retirement every moment was busy. And for years after retirement I would feel guilty for not accomplishing anything on any given day. I'm over that now. I'm still plenty busy but not like before and days when I do nothing are just fine too.
ReplyDeleteIts takes a while to enjoy doing less.
DeleteIt's nice to have time.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is.
DeleteLike all decent retired women I ask myself at least once every day how on earth I fitted gainful employment into my life. It's different type of busy now, one that includes getting up slowly at the time I want.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it, you earned it.
Thanks, the same to you. Getting up slowly is everything.
DeleteI find that as I get older, I am less energized by activity and more burdened by it!
ReplyDeleteIt's true!
DeleteI paid all the deductibles from a paycheck for 51 years beginning at the age of 11. I have earned my retirement time. I was able to move back to the part of my country that I love. I deserve my retirement benefits. I paid for them for 51 years. I am enjoying my time to do as I wish now.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you.
DeleteI hear you. For the past 5 years I worked usually 2 or 3 days a week, but when the jobs finished at the end of 2024 I was so happy and relieved. Just to have all the time in the world to enjoy doing what I choose to do, and no other commitments.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pleasure like no other.
DeleteI know what you mean. I quite enjoyed being so busy when I was working but now I'm retired the idea of being constantly busy is somewhat alarming!
ReplyDeleteYes to time to wander life instead of wonder when.
ReplyDeleteI like that!
DeleteThe #1 thing on my daily to-do list is to enjoy some quiet time. It is a gift to myself and I highly recommend it.
