Something to Say

I am tired this week. However, I have been busy collecting quotes for a series called #powerofwords my political FB group has started. If you don't mind, I will share a few here in honor of Black History Month (February).  I promise to rest up and come back with a post in my own words very soon.

    I grew up a mile from Sojourner Truth's stay in Akron, Ohio. "Ain't I a Woman!" Some of us even knew abut it.

      That "Ain't I a Woman!" speech is my all time favorite. It sends chills down my spine.

    I have just started reading Zora Neale Hurston. Have had a couple of her books for ages but way, way down on the to-be-read pile. A library discussion yesterday prompted me to move them to the top only to discover she's an amazing writer and I wish I'd read her years ago....

      She was almost a forgotten author, but Alice Walker revived interest in Hurston's work in the mid 1970's. I'm glad you are reading her work.

    Your labours have been recognised; check out the comments you encourage. You're entitled to a zizz. All in good time I'd like to know what FB stands for.

    Apophthegms are a starting point but shouldn't be regarded as essential truths. The desire to be witty may tamper with reality. But then all writing is only an approximation. Heigh-ho.

      Thanks, Roderick. Although I guess I should confess to having been a die-hard EastEnders fan for many years (albeit seeing it years behind here in the States) I had never heard the term "zizz" before. Love it. FB stands for Facebook.

      Also, thanks for the tip on Apophthegms. I'm a sucker for short, concise, and fully loaded sayings. However, they should be used sparingly for maximum effect, like exclamation points. I'm a sucker for those, too.

    I love that Zora Neal Hurston quote - an author I had not heard of but will now pursue.

    I enjoy little inspirational quotes as they help keep my awareness meter charged.

      Yes, I like that quote, too. My hope is that 2018 is one of those years that answers questions.

    I discovered Hurston in the late 80's. She opened my eyes to a world that had been little exposed and I was amazed. She is one of my favorite authors. Her words were so powerful as are all of these quotes you've shared.
    I really hope you feel better soon. You have not been up to snuff for a bit..I'm thinking of you.

    Love these quotes. I will always be grateful that I got to take a summer class at University of Colorado, Boulder in 1983 that was being taught by the amazing Shirley Chisholm. She was as inspiring as it gets.
