I've been on a spending spree since warm weather clothes went on sale. I wear warm weather clothes for at least 10 months of the year, so fall sales are when I buy!
I desperately needed new t-shirts. I tend to wear clothes until they fall apart. Not out of any philosophical imperative, but because I am lazy and I hate to shop. Plus, I'm uncomfortable with new clothes. Unless they are 100% perfect in my eyes and on my body, I tend to let them hang in my closet and "age." Sometimes they never get old enough. It's weird, I know. Just one of my many charming neurotic quirks.
Consequently, when I find something I like I usually order more of them. I just ordered a t-shirt I quite love, so I ordered two more. All in the same color because that was the only one left in my size. I toy with the idea of wearing a standard uniform for the rest of my life. This shirt and a pair of cropped jeans would do.
It's such a great shirt. I felt comfortable in it immediately.
I get it. I am fairly uniform-ish. A whole lot of shades of gray, a little fun, funky but always comfortable. Too old to be bothered. Also, I know when I don't feel myself in clothes and I refuse to go out when I don't feel myself. I buy multiples......makes life so much easier.
ReplyDeleteMultiples really do make life easier.
DeleteI'm not a huge fan of clothes shopping either, so I can relate. In fact the clothes I wear to work every day are, for the most part, the same clothes I wore to work ten or fifteen years ago!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many other things to think about and spend money on.
DeleteI also hate to shop... for anything. I have lost so much weight this year that I gave in and bought some new pants. I had to. The old ones kept falling off.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that. I hope you are feeling better.
DeleteI hate to shop for clothes too. If you ever want to mail someone the stuff you don't wear, I'll send you my address!
ReplyDeleteI fear they would be too big for you!
DeleteYou could hang them out back in the smokehouse.
ReplyDeleteWell THAT made me laugh.
DeleteI enjoy shopping but rarely do these days. I try really hard to get rid of something when I buy something new.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea!
DeleteSince I retired, I have gotten more lazy about the clothes I wear. Tshirt and jeans if I am going out; sweatshirt and sweatpants most days when it is cool. I have lost the will to care what's in style - as long as it is clean and doesn't smell, I am good to go! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is the retiree way!
DeleteI have always disliked shopping. I too, have bought multiples in the same colors. I too, have shirts in my closet I haven't worn but only because they were mail-order and don't quite fit in a way that makes me feel comfortable. Yet, I liked them too much to return (and they were really a fantastic bargain). I'll get there (comfortable ) soon-ish. LOL
ReplyDeleteI hear you! It's hard to let go of a fantastic bargain even if you never want to wear it. lol
DeleteI also hate shopping, which is why I keep my clothes for as long as possible - until they're disintegrating. They don't have to be 100% perfect, just long-lasting enough to keep me out of the shops for a while.
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say about clothes? Nothing that would be helpful; squalor being my default state, sartorially speaking. So here I go. Coupla days ago I was MRI scanned, a sensation roughly equivalent to that of toothpaste waiting to be squeezed from a tube. Tightish and bombarded by haunted-house audio. Naturally I was required to take my shoes off and - thank goodness - I paid no attention to what this revealed.
ReplyDeletePreparing for bed that evening I felt a twinge of pain in one of my big toes. Looked down and noticed that half the toe protruded from a hole in my sock; the hole acting like a noose as used in a hanging. I mean so tight, it had created and dug into a deeply inflamed groove in my toe. Now, well lit, it hurt like hell. Further inspection revealed that this same sock lacked a heel, that my own (flesh) heel was exposed to the world like a pink tennis ball.
Thought back. The guy operating the scanner couldn't have missed these details. No doubt concluded that my evident pauperism made me an unfit patient for a piece of equipment costing at least half a mill.
That pair of socks has now been discarded.
And not a moment too soon, I hear you say.
Great story!
DeleteI love clothes! Especially winter ones - turtleneck sweaters, woolly things, scarves etc. but Florida doesn't lend itself to wearing them unless you enjoy melting. When the OC was working for a year in Oxford and I went to visit I was struck by how stylishly English women dressed, making how we dress in Florida seem completely sloppy. I decided that when I came home I'd be better. I'd wear dresses even when there was no special occasion. Guess how long that lasted? Yes. Two minutes. Ninety degrees will do that to you. I hear you on shopping end of season sales - I do the same thing. But it's time to curb that habit. Downsize is the order of the day!
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of winter clothes boxed up. I should probably get rid of most of them. Downsizing would feel terrific.
