Tom and I went to a No Kings protest and march last Saturday. We could have gone to a big one in Orlando, but we hate driving in that traffic towards Orlando. Instead we went to a small city a bit north of us. I'm glad we went. For a small city like Apopka, FL, it was a great turnout. Someone said it was 500 people, and since these things are always exaggerated and so hard to determine, I'd say there were about 400.
Many thousands attended in Orlando. There were about 75 protests across Florida alone. Wikipedia says across the country"more than 5 million people in more than 2,100 cities and towns" in every state showed up. How amazing is that?
What really gets me are the pictures of maybe 7 - 12 people who showed up and protested in little teeny redneck cities. SO brave. I could almost imagine how hard their hearts were pounding.
I'm so pleased to see so many Americans standing up to be counted, not giving up. I support and admire you!
ReplyDeleteBecause of my physical condition I could not go. There must be a lot of people like me too. I am glad that people are finally speaking up.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get to the local protest which was a bit of a drive south of us, but we certainly joined them in spirit. I am so glad you went. (NewRobin13)
ReplyDeleteI agree -- I'm so impressed with the bravery of people who protested in very red areas. Even showing up in Apopka took some bravery, I imagine!
ReplyDeleteI got to go to two - one quite large, one fairly small town. Both were incredibly friendly with high, positive energy. It was a heartwarming display which I can only hope is beginning to send a message to those lacking the courage to stand up to fascism.
ReplyDeleteGlad you joined the protest! I went to the one in my city and we had a couple thousand, I think. It was great to see and all went well with no troubles at all.
ReplyDeleteYes, those who protested in small numbers in tiny towns were brave to risk the possible hostility of the locals. But I read that there were massive protests even in deep red areas. It's encouraging that so much opposition is building up so quickly.
