Out and about

You wouldn't know it to look at me, but my husband and I try to get exercise of some kind most days. Maybe we ride our bikes, take a walk, or work in the yard. Occasionally, we'll go to Cosco and pretend that's exercise because it's so damn big to walk around in.

In the hot half of the year we go out in the morning, as early as we are able, to avoid the intense heat and potential skin damage. At this time of the year we can enjoy our mornings being self-indulgent because it's cool enough to go outside in midday or later. I'm not a morning person, so I prefer the cooler half of the year.

Yesterday we went for a walk at the nature preserve and I took these pictures.

Turtle

Many things on or near the lake

Roots

Vulture

I'm not sure what this is

Lantana

Looks like deadly nightshade to me

    1. He seemed a little cranky, but I guess he had been sleeping until we woke him up.

  3. You still have lots of colour around! Here it's all goldren-browns and browns now, till snow comes to stay.

    1. Yeah, we live in Central Florida. Some trees do drop their leaves, but others don't.

  5. This is so nice to see (and read). Here, all the leaves are brown and the sky is grey.

  6. Every day I have off, I walk for at least an hour, and like your pictures attest, enjoy the healing that is nature. But, imo, Costco still counts.

    1. Ha! It must count, because I'm so tired when we get home.

  7. The berries are of the poisonous pokeweed plant. Very invasive. Love the walk pics. Take care, Kris in Ohio

  8. Looks like a lovely day for a walk and you captured some pretty photos for us! I also count walking in the grocery store as part of my walking for the day! ;)

  10. Lovely photos and green plants. Everything out of my window is the color of dried grasses.

    1. Thanks. I well remember the grayness of the frozen northlands. Still, when I'm hiding in my house all summer, you can go out and enjoy all those beautiful northern flowers.

  11. Yes, as Kris said, the berries are pokeweed. It's poisonous but people used to cook and eat the young leaves as "poke salad." (I wouldn't recommend trying!)
