Encased but still energized.

It might be a mistake to binge watch The Great British Baking Show during this period of enforced torpidity. It is the only thing I want to watch, and I'm very near the end. It makes me want to eat cake. I'm also dreaming of meat, potato, onions and root veg encased in a hot water, hand raised pastry crust. What an inspired carbohydrate jackpot.

The good news is my husband took me for a walk at a nearby nature preserve yesterday. It's a lovely forest walk on an elevated boardwalk. The preserve borders a large lake, so the walkway keeps one safe from alligators and snakes while still allowing one to experience a bit of the real Florida. The sky was overcast, a rare treat in the Sunshine State. Being there made me insanely happy to be out in the world.

  1. I love walks like that! I went on a walk in the Everglades with my kids years ago and some otters were playing on the boardwalk.

  2. Your foot looks like it's in good shape. Soon your knee will too.

  4. Glad you are out and about some. Being stuck at home is the pits when you have no choice. I'm glad you are healing.

  5. This sweet photo documents a milestone in your healing. Thank goodness for thoughtful husbands, wheels, and boardwalks!

Good food is good medicine (-:

    1. I'm trying hard to eat healthy. As much as I lust after cake and pastry, I am staying strong to get stronger.

    2. "Meat, potato, onions and root veg encased in a hot water, hand raised pastry crust" sounds like really good medicine!

A carbohydrate-heavy way of eating works well for me as long as the carbohydrates are not mixed with sugar (except for the generous amounts of sugar that naturally occur in food). Eating lots of potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, oats and corn with olive oil and coconut oil is my good medicine.

    1. Haha. Teva flip flops. I wear them for at least 10 months of the year. One of the joys of living in Florida.

  8. So glad you got out and to such loveliness. Still wishing you a speedy recovery with what must seem like the most long drawn out recover ever.

  11. The Great British Baking Show is available at one squeeze of my remote. Which remains unsqueezed. I remain unseduced. If I want to watch someone cook I can step into the kitchen (great acoustics for a singer) and watch VR. Even join in if I choose. I eat cake but that's as far as it goes; why would I want to watch various raw materials turned into sludge and then popped into the oven? It's so... repetitive.

US teeth are world famous for being white, straight and slightly oversize. But I didn't realise this attention to detail extended to toes. How straight yours are, how crooked mine. Trouble was you couldn't find a good toe-ologist during WW2, which is when my toes were taking shape. I toy briefly with selling my feet as "full of character" but this would involve having my socks washed more frequently. It's a fact, being prettier means hard work. Better to sign on as an intellectual. After all nobody can say I'm lying just from the expression on my face.

    Hand-raised pastry crust! Now there's a thought (except it's a naughty one).

    1. My teeth are crooked. The perfectly straight toothed whitest smile craze started with my daughter's generation. The orthodontic industry played on the boomer's parental guilt to convince us all to pay ridiculous amounts of money for braces for our children.

You don't know what your missing with TGBBS.

    2. And I've been missing it for nine years, apparently. Actually that's not true. The ragtops seem to be full of it most weeks (when they've run out of bile pushing Brexit and/or trying to undermine the BBC); I see their ravings when I pick up The Guardian. I fear I am a chronic misser: Game of Thrones, Killing Eve, the one set in New Zealand, etc, etc. Always ignore me when the subject's popular culture.

  12. I'm glad you got out into the wilderness! Fortunately, even in Florida, alligators and snakes will normally run away before they do anything else. (Unless they're hungry and you're especially small.)

  13. That sounds like a fabulous walk. Lucky you! We sometimes go on cycle trips with friends one of whom is in a wheelchair which can be attached to her partner's bicycle - she's in the front and has all the fun.

  14. Glad you're Healing and able to get out for that Lovely Walk with your Husband... I too watch way too much Food Channel Network Shows during the Holidays! Lucky for me I'm a lousy Chef and so I can't replicate a damned thing and with The Man's TBI he's forgotten how to... so there ya go, I HAVE to eat simply and Healthy! Dammit...
