I believe the nature of this world is a duality between good and evil. The reality is we must always be ready to do battle against the darkness. Sometimes we win, and sometimes we lose. It is important to accept this is an everlasting battle, one that will never truly be won by either side. However, it must always be fought.
One day at a time. It's hard to know what to do next but we can't give up.

ReplyDeleteDarkness is only dark when we look away.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but I seem to be a little slow on the uptake these days. I don't really understand what you are saying here. Please clarify. Thanks for your patience with me.
DeleteThe darkness implied by this new presidency, fascist playbook, it has all been played out before in my country. There are almost identical phrases and threats and actions between what the nazi party said and did between 1933 and 1945. As well as others like the Italian and Spanish fascist. And history tells us that they all failed eventually because people can only be lied to for a while. And they were intimidated and persecuted because the lies would not work. Wherever fascism raises its ugly head we -and I am speaking as the granddaughter of a nazi - must look at it and identify it, dark as it may be. We have so much more information now than what was available to people then.
DeleteWhat I meant was that we must face the darkness. In history, no fascist ruler has been successful in the end. They can only lie to people for a while, then of course they create fear and combine it with persecution but people will only take that much. Hitler had 12 years and as early as the first three months, war and with it his downfall was on the cards. The Italian fascists caved in a few years earlier, Spain and Portugal lasted a bit longer but even these fascists were defeated by the people.
DeleteFascists are selfish and vain and stupid. That's all there is behind the darkness. Don't let it get you down.
Many thanks. I sincerely appreciate your words.

ReplyDeleteI’m afraid the darkness may have descended for a long time, however. Fascism is never overcome without violence.
ReplyDeleteSadly true!
DeleteRead up about the carnation revolution in Portugal (non violent, initiated by a song, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gr%C3%A2ndola,_Vila_Morena, and ending with soldiers putting carnations into their guns) and the end of the Greek junta (collapsed due to infighting) both in the 1970s in Europe.
DeleteWe must stay engaged, push back. Don't make it easy.
ReplyDeleteResist!
DeleteYes, it's a duality between good and evil. All we can do is keep fighting for good despite all the negative forces ranged against us.
