I saw this today on Sabine's Interim Arrangements and had to share.
"I'm just a sucker for courage. As I say so often, I'm moved by the gift of courage, because when you walk towards danger, in the danger, and dare to do what's needed, you put your own safety at risk so you become in some way larger than life. Fear makes you shrink, doesn't it?"
--Joanna Macy
Now I just have to find out who Joanna Macy is.
I looked her up, she sounds like an interesting woman.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have looked her up!
ReplyDeleteWalk towards danger, I like that quote.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have the courage that she speaks of. Or maybe my life has been less dangerous than hers.
ReplyDeleteOnly know a little about this remarkable woman. I think she is close to 100 years old now.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about being larger than life, but certainly that sort of courage is always astonishing and humbling. I see Joanna Macy is a spokesperson for anti-nuclear causes, peace, justice, and environmentalism. Sounds good to me.
ReplyDeleteTwo types of courage: (a) short term and (b) long term.
ReplyDelete(a) You're walking through the toiletries division at Macy's and come upon a Bengal tiger in the same aisle ambling towards you.
(b) You're getting old and reckon you can live with that; days later you're awake in bed at 3 am and there's evidence you're getting older quicker.
In a sense (a) may well solve (b).
Always look on the... etc..
