Today's fantasy satire alert

Okay, you guys are going to think I'm a complete nut, but for some reason that doesn't bother me.  Here goes my latest fantasy satire alert:

There's a bill that passed both the Florida State House and Florida Senate. It is being forwarded to our moronic Republican governor, Ron DeSatan DeSantis, to approve into law. It is a bill that, if passed, will require girls under 18 years old to get their parents consent before they can get an abortion.

It does not take into account that a girl child might be raped, or that the father of the baby might be one of her parents or step-parents. Or a sibling. This is not the kind of information a young girl will want to tell her mother, especially if the mother is abusive. Don't kid yourself, some mother's don't take their daughter's side.

My smart aleck counter legislation:

If this bill goes through, there should be a companion bill automatically giving the father of an underage child's fetus 9 months jail (for statutory rape) or probation time (if the father is an underage boy).  It takes two to tango.

Remember, if you're a good parent your daughter will always feel free to come to you for help. You don't need a law to make that happen, you just need to be a good parent.

  1. It hurts to think of this. I only we could be judge and jury for the lot of them.

  2. Body parts are becoming more and more transplantable, Hearts, lungs, kidneys - so why not wombs? You can see where I'm going with this one, I hope. Rapists inherit a womb, are impregnated, etc, etc, etc.

But that's not the best one. Suppose a rapist inherited the copied brain of a vulnerable woman?

It's odd, isn't it? The living world is divided by gender and, as a result, one half of the world goes through the unfairly distributed experience of childbirth. But rise up from the divided world and we arrive at a single gender; needless to say He's a fella. And He is said to have devised the inequitable system below. I recommend an amendment to the constitution by which he runs the Universe; on alternate (that's the English meaning, not the corrupted US meaning) days He becomes a She.

It's not funny and I'm renowned for my funniness. But I'm not in favour of unfairness. Mind you, several funnier options are presently passing through my brain, as yet untransplanted.

    1. Thanks for playing my game! Inventing fantasy legislation really helps me to reduce the stress caused by contemplating the real ones.

  3. Your counter legislation sounds good. The laws around abortion are medieval. When are men going to stop telling women what to do with their own bodies?

  4. Jesus. You know, not only do some mother's not take their daughter's side, some mother's actively participate in allowing the husband access to the child. I hear so many stories like that from my patients. It's sickening and any infringement on a woman's/girl's right to not carry a baby under those circumstances is a sin.

    1. It is so hard to understand, but I know you are correct. It is as if daughter's in those families just aren't seen as fully human. Such a crime against humanity!

  5. There's a really good Twitter thread by Gabrielle Blair that you should look up and read, if you haven't already. Your satire is good -- so true and biting.

  6. It's infuriating that most of the lawmakers who pass these ridiculous (and criminally mean-spirited) laws are men who never have to face the possibility of carrying and delivering an unwanted child. If we're going to punish girls for becoming pregnant -- which is what these sorts of bills do -- then absolutely, we should punish the boys too.

Ideally, of course, we shouldn't be punishing EITHER of them.

  7. Ridiculous!! Rape is a heinous crime. I believe the laws or judgments related to rape should be made or done by women legislators or judges. It is a shame that legislators have the guts to formulate such flawed bills. I know abortion can be risky at times for young girls, but the decision solely depends upon the combined judgment of the girl, the primary caretaker, and the doctor.
