Christmas Eve is always my favorite time part of the holiday, and this one was especially festive and fun. We went to our daughter's house for a lovely dinner and good cheer. Hilarity ensued. The grandkids wore matching pajamas. Everyone was happy. I've experienced Christmas Eve 71 times, and on a scale from 1 to 10, I'd give this a 10.
On Christmas Day they came here for a mid-afternoon meal and presents. That was also a good time, despite the fact that most of us were up by 5 a.m. and needed a nap. My only issue is that no one ate even one of my cookies. Not one. So that's it. I'm done making a ridiculous variety of Christmas cookies. Done, I tell you!
To be fair, my daughter makes cookies, too. I imagine they were sick of sweets by mid-afternoon on Christmas Day. All the more reason to pass the torch to the next generation in future years. There comes a time, and all that.
Now they are all staring at me, waiting to be eaten. I feel kind of sorry for them. |
Those cookies look delicious. I wish I could eat one. When I was a child at mid-afternoon on Christmas Day, I would have eaten, at the very least, one of each of those cookies you made. I had no concept of being sick of sweets (-:
ReplyDeleteNow I'm imagining myself on the other side of things, as a cookie waiting patiently to be eaten! Sweet to hear that you had a 10 Christmas Eve with your family.
After they left I felt compelled to eat one of each, otherwise it was just too disturbing.
DeleteI would have loved to have eaten some of those cookies. I've never made a Christmas cookie in my life. I think yours look so yummy. Maybe the family was full up on sweets.
ReplyDeleteThey were!
DeleteThis really is a damn shame, Colette. Cookie guilt. Only one of each consumed. Call Mr. Moon. He's tall and lanky, even half those cookies will only fill one leg to the knee.
ReplyDeleteHa! Although I love and read Mary Moon's blog, I don't think I'm on her radar.
DeleteFortunately they freeze well:)
ReplyDeleteThey do, and I have foil packets of Christmas cookies to last, well, for a long time.
DeleteI have a lot of leftover cookies too. Mostly because others brought cookies and I didn't know they would. I have frozen a bunch so we can enjoy them at some other time of the year. Your plate looks yummy - I would want to try one of those filled round cookies on the top of the photo!
ReplyDeleteLinzer cookies. My husband made them.
DeleteI had the opposite problem - a daughter who said she was bringing my favorite cookies from an Italian bakery near her, so I didn't bake. And then they were sold out. Always resourceful though, I filled up on chocolate and candied nuts.
ReplyDeleteI am curious - what are the rectangular bar cookies? They all look delish!
Shortbread.
DeleteThat’s a beautiful plate of cookies that I know are a ton of work. I’m sorry Colette.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda!
DeleteThey really are staring! I like Christmas Eve better too.
ReplyDeleteThey are!
DeleteSo Christmas Day would be a bit less than 10, given the lack of interest in your cookies (which look delicious btw)?
ReplyDeleteYes, Christmas day I'd give a 7.5, not only because of the cookies, but because everyone was tired and low energy. However, Christmas Eve was nearly perfect, not at my house, and my cookies weren't an issue. I have given Christmas Eve a 10. It's quite fun to rate things on a scale of 1-10.
DeleteBut your cookies are so beautiful! I can't believe no one sampled even one. I could definitely help you dispense with them in a hurry!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you! :)
Thanks, Jennifer. You are very kind. Happy 2023 to you and Gregg!
DeleteWe are not big Christmas cookie bakers (or eaters). Your stash looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteDoes it have to be sweet stuff? How about sausage rolls and - admittedly hard work - Scotch eggs.
ReplyDeleteIt's what you are used to and prefer. My mother's family are German and French, so my family has always been big on Christmas cookies. However, I think sausage rolls and Scotch eggs are a great idea for the future. They would actually eat those!
